When I say the key writer of the Bible ( New Testament) was the son of a fisherman, many people find it hard to agree. John, the writer, was one of Jesus\’ closest disciples and wrote some of the most important books in the Bible.
One thing everyone should understand is that Jesus himself was illiterate. He communicated with people through public speeches (rhetorical communication- he tells the story), but he didn’t know how to write those stories down. Because, he was the son of a carpenter(socially disadvantaged kid). So, he called young literates from marginalized backgrounds to join his group. With them he fought against the upper class of Israel, the priests (Pharisees), and the Romans (the military).
This fight continues to this day, in the name of land and beliefs. People from the fishermen community will always support the vulnerable.
As the longest-living apostle, John played a critical role in the early Christian community. His writings had a profound influence on the theological development of the Church, particularly his emphasis on love and the divinity . According to tradition, John took care of Jesus\’ mother, Mary, after Jesus’ crucifixion, and lived until old age, possibly in Ephesus.
